This is a chance for us to talk about what you're looking for and whether my approach is a good fit. No commitment required.

Insurance

I'm an out-of-network provider. I made this decision deliberately. Being out-of-network means I can provide longer sessions when clinically appropriate, choose the best treatment approach without requiring pre-authorization, and keep my full attention on your care rather than insurance paperwork.

If you have a PPO plan, you may be able to get reimbursed for a significant portion of our sessions. I provide a superbill (a detailed receipt) after every session that you can submit to your insurance company. Many of my clients are reimbursed 50–80% of the session fee.

To check your benefits, call the number on the back of your insurance card and ask: “What is my out-of-network reimbursement rate for outpatient mental health with a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist?”

Sliding Scale

I reserve a limited number of spots on my caseload for clients who need a reduced fee. If cost is a barrier, please ask. I'd rather work with the right client at a lower rate than not work with them at all.

Payment

Payment is collected at the time of each session via credit card on file. I accept all major credit cards, HSA cards, and FSA cards. Payment is processed through SimplePractice, my secure practice management system.

Cancellation Policy

I require 48 hours notice for cancellations. Late cancellations and no-shows are charged the full session fee. I know this feels strict. It exists so I can offer that slot to someone on the waitlist who needs it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Talk therapy helps you understand your experiences through conversation. EMDR goes a step further: it helps your brain reprocess those experiences so they lose their emotional charge. Many of my clients have spent years in talk therapy and found it helpful to a point. EMDR often reaches what talking alone can't.

It depends on what we're working on. Some clients come for focused EMDR work on a specific issue and complete treatment in 10–15 sessions. Others with more complex concerns, such as developmental trauma or longstanding relational patterns, work with me for six months to a year or longer. I'll give you an honest assessment after our first few sessions. I don't believe in therapy lasting forever. I want you to not need me.

I typically see clients weekly. For active EMDR processing, I sometimes recommend twice a week to maintain momentum. As things stabilize, some clients move to every other week before wrapping up.

We talk about what brought you here, your history, and what you're hoping to get from therapy. I'll explain how I work and we'll start figuring out if we're a good match. No EMDR in the first session. We build a foundation first.

No. In fact, one of the advantages of EMDR is that you don't need to give a detailed narrative of what happened. I need to know enough to guide the work, but you don't need to relive the story in order to heal from it.

That's a good thing to bring up in the consultation. Not everyone needs EMDR, and I'll be straightforward about whether I think it's the right fit. I use multiple modalities and will tailor the approach to you.

Basic EMDR training is a 40–50 hour program. EMDRIA Certification requires an additional 20 hours of consultation with an approved consultant, documentation of clinical cases, and adherence to a professional standard of practice. It indicates a deeper level of skill and experience with the protocol.

Then you cry. It's therapy. I have tissues, I have water, and I won't be uncomfortable. Tears are information, not a problem.
